Who am I?

I am Kalin-Rilski. I was born in Austria, but I have been living in Bulgaria for three years. I have been drawing since I was a little girl.

My mother is an architect, my father a restorer of modern and contemporary art.

I have participated as a child in two films - an autobiographical feature film (Ungehorsam 2016 about one of Austria's most famous actionists, Otto Mühl) and a film based on a children's art project. So, as they say, art is in the family and in my blood.

My entry into the field of pixel art was very spontaneous. Before I started doing digital drawing, I was making animations for my own projects. I quite consciously use pixels as part of my drawing and experiment with colourful colours and different styles. So I would define my style as a combination of pixel art and pop art.

I find a special, deeper meaning in pixelated images-as I connect pixelart, to tapestry structure, even to pointillism. Through the smallest element that makes up a digital or analog image, using color, one can create works of value.

When I draw directly on paper, my favorite style is cubism, as well as the cartoonish expression of faces and figures. I wouldn't say that I would be a pixel only artist. This is just the beginning of my career. I have many more ideas I would like to share with the world through art.

My initial inspiration came from Takashi Murakami's colorful paintings and concepts. It was through his art that my journey-adventure into this world began.

I get my ideas from everything around me: from the music I listen to, from movies, animations, interviews of famous artists, from books and art catalogues.

My latest creative experiment involves transforming some of the images into actual products, combining visual art with functional design.

I also have a message for young people: let them not give up on expressing their dreams in any way, be more patient and do not let others demotivate them.

I would also like to donate a portion of my proceeds dedicated to addressing social challenges and issues.
